The previous, just replaced generation of X1 has the BMW Production Code of F48 and most model variants are front-wheel drive (the can be recognised by their sDrive markings). There is also one all-wheel drive BMW X1 sold in South Africa, which is designated as the BMW X1 xDrive. This version of the X1 was unveiled for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015, with a follow-up reintroduction a few months later at the Tokyo Motor Show. From a safety perspective, the BMW X1 has some of the best ratings in its class, including a five-star overall rating for the X1 SUV which was tested in 2015 during its Euro NCAP test. Did You Know?
